How You Can Powder Coat and Protect Your Patio Furniture

Powder Coating by Frank T. Patio Furniture

Powder coating your patio furniture is a process that colors, finishes, and protects each piece.

We spend winters cooped up indoors. When spring and summer arrive, you want to enjoy your time outdoors. Your metal patio furniture spends a lot of time in the sun, making it vulnerable to the sun’s UV rays. However, did you know you can reduce the damage by the UV rays on your furniture? You can protect your patio furniture by applying powder coating. Once your powder coating is applied, you can store your furniture carefully in shaded areas to preserve its beauty.

Powder Coating

The powder coating finishing process covers furniture in epoxy powders. The powder coating comes as finely ground resin particles with color pigment. The coating also contains various additives for other functions like hardness or gloss.

When applying the powder coating, an electrode fitted spray gun tip adds electrostatic charge to powder as it goes through a charged portion on the spray gun’s tip. A grounded chunk attracts the charged atoms, and the electrostatic attraction holds them there until they melt and fuse into a uniform coating under high heat. Once applied, you do not have to do paint retouches, and the coat stays intact for years.

Conventional paint only protects the base material. It adds color via a wet applied coat of acrylic or poly paint. The quality means the paint sticks to itself more than on the surface it is painted on, making the paint bubble when it’s hot, and crack over time. Powder coating allows for more accurate finishes and patterns, which last much longer than conventional paint.

Shading

Shading is another way to protect your patio furniture, but how do you keep the furniture in the shade while you want to enjoy the sunlight? You can reorganize the furniture to shield it from the full glare of the sun. If you place your patio furniture on the patio edges, for example, the rain and sun will impact it faster. Instead, you could move the furniture towards the center to protect it from the elements.

Storing

Keep the furniture protected by storing it away, especially during the colder months. You can store it in your garage, shed, basement, or get a storage box. Remember to cover the furniture with a plastic sheet or tarp. You could also place some wood blocks on top of the table to allow air circulation. Anchoring the trap or plastic sheet ensures strong winds do not blow your chairs away.

Conclusion

The best way to maintain patio furniture is powder coating. It needs no maintenance and lasts for years. You can shade or store the furniture away, but it takes a lot of effort and maintenance resources. It makes more sense to powder coat and protect your patio furniture as it saves you money spent recoating the furniture in regular paint.
